## Introduction

Sports Guardian is a personal safety and medical ID solution designed for people who lead active lives — whether they're out running, playing sports, or attending large events. At the heart of the product is a customisable wristband, engraved with a unique QR code that links to a secure online profile containing vital medical and emergency contact information.

The goal? To ensure that first responders and event staff can access crucial health data within seconds — when every moment matters.

## Challenge

Sports Guardian approached us to help modernise their platform and improve the user experience for both individuals and staff. Their existing system lacked the flexibility and performance today’s users expect — particularly on mobile devices.

They needed a solution that would:

- Work seamlessly across all devices, especially on-the-go mobile access

- Handle sensitive data securely and in line with best privacy practices

- Offer an intuitive user interface that simplifies profile management

- Scale with the growing number of users 

We set out to design and develop a Progressive Web App (PWA) that could deliver all of this — making it easier than ever for users to update their medical information and for responders to access it when it counts.

## Wireframing & Prototyping

We produced low-fidelity wireframes followed by high-fidelity prototypes to visualise the app’s functionality. This ensured that the user flow from wristband activation to emergency response access was seamless.

## Visual Design

We aligned the design with Sports Guardian’s brand, ensuring the app was visually appealing, modern, and user-friendly. Key design elements focused on readability, accessibility, and ease of navigation.

## Mobile-First Approach

Given the nature of the app’s usage, we prioritized a mobile-first design. The layout and interactive elements were optimized for mobile devices while maintaining a clean, responsive design for desktop users.

## Development

We utilised a Progressive Web App architecture to ensure that the solution was lightweight, fast, and could be accessed across all modern browsers and devices without the need for a separate mobile app download. We integrated the app with the secure backend system that manages user data, including medical information, emergency contacts, and activity logs. The app allows for real-time syncing across devices and sends automatic alerts to emergency contacts in case of an emergency.

## Result

The finished PWA transformed how Sports Guardian’s platform works — for users, venue staff, and the business itself.

- Better User Experience: Users can now register and update their profiles quickly, from any device. The onboarding flow was simplified to remove friction and increase confidence.

- Stronger User Engagement: The new mobile‑first interface has driven a marked uptick in how often users engage with the product.

- Faster Emergency Access: Staff and first responders can instantly scan a wristband QR code and view the critical information they need — cutting response times dramatically.

- Built for Growth: The new platform is scalable and secure, ready to support tens of thousands of users and high-volume event usage.

By designing a platform people can rely on in critical moments, we made vital health information instantly accessible when it matters most — improving safety and peace of mind.
