## Introduction

Energy procurement is complex, especially for SMEs that don’t have the time or resources to navigate shifting tariffs and supplier terms. ProcureSmart, a specialist in energy solutions, set out to change that.

They had a bold idea: to build a digital platform that would remove friction from the procurement process, offering clarity and confidence to small and mid-sized businesses. That idea became Switch Savvi, an online tool designed to help users easily compare tariffs, understand their options, and secure the best energy deals.

That’s where we came in. Our team at Layers Studio worked closely with ProcureSmart to bring this concept to life, handling everything from UX strategy and interface design to full-stack development and technical architecture.

## Challenge

Creating a smart, user-friendly platform in a complex domain like energy procurement meant tackling several key challenges head-on:

- Understanding SME behaviours: Many small business owners aren’t energy experts. We needed to build something that made sense instantly — without training, jargon, or overwhelm.

- Designing for clarity: Comparing suppliers and tariffs is often confusing. Our interface had to be intuitive and visually clean, guiding users through each step of the process.

- Ensuring performance and scalability: The platform needed to handle complex data and grow with the business, without compromising on speed or security.

Above all, the goal was to make a technical process feel simple, approachable, and genuinely helpful.

## Discovery Workshops

Conducted comprehensive discovery workshops involving stakeholders to gain insights into the challenges faced by SMEs in energy procurement.

## Research and Analysis

Analysed findings from discovery workshops and market research to identify pain points and opportunities in the SME energy procurement process.

## Design and Prototyping

Created wireframes and prototypes based on the insights gathered, focusing on user-friendly interfaces and intuitive navigation to enhance user experience.

## Iterative Development

Iteratively refined the design and functionality of SwitchSavvi, incorporating enhancements to improve usability and effectiveness.

## Implementation and Deployment

The development team to implement the finalised designs and deploy the SwitchSavvi platform, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems and infrastructure.

## Result

The outcome is Switch Savvi, a seamless, responsive, and fully scalable digital platform that puts SMEs back in control of their energy decisions.

- Users can easily input their business needs, compare energy tariffs, and switch suppliers, all within a few clicks.

- The platform’s UX is designed to remove friction, reduce confusion, and build trust with clear, step-by-step flows

- Behind the scenes, it’s powered by robust backend logic and clean code architecture that supports real-time data processing and long-term scalability.

By aligning technical expertise with real user needs, we helped ProcureSmart transform a complex process into something refreshingly simple, and commercially powerful.

## Why It Matters

Switch Savvi is a meaningful step forward for SME energy procurement. For small businesses, energy costs can be a significant operational burden. Switch Savvi empowers them to take informed action, saving time and money in a market that’s notoriously hard to navigate. The platform sets a new standard in how they serve their customers, delivering more value at scale, with less manual input.

> “Layers have delivered our project to a high standard and in a collaborative manner. The project team grasped our complicated marketplace remarkably quickly and the design phase was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Development brought technical challenges for Layers and ourselves to reach our desired destination, but the Layers Team worked diligently with us to get there. James and Paula are responsive when needed within the process and James in particular was a valuable and available senior link within the business. The product we build will be launched soon and I expect our work together will be notable in its impacts once we reach market. I'd recommend Layers for projects of this kind.”
